Relationship Therapy

& Clinical Supervision

Barbara Wilkinson

MA MBACP

Hello, finding the way forward is not easy.  As an experienced, qualified psychotherapist, I can offer you a no obligation assessment session to help you work out what is right for you at this time.

Perhaps you need the space to talk through what you can expect from counselling and what kind of therapist might be best to help you with your issues.

I am a fully trained and British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)  accredited therapist with a Master's Degree in Relationship Therapy.

I am also a qualified Clinical Supervisor and I supervise individuals and groups within Relate and in my own practice. I am committed to personal and professional development and I attend courses and workshops regularly.

I have a thorough working knowledge of the BACP code of ethics.

Individual Therapy

I work with a range of personal and relationship issues that include low mood and depression, worry and anxiety, relationship breakdown, bereavement, low self-esteem and stress.  Relational work is equally valid for individual clients who are seeking to understand difficult behaviour patterns and complex feelings.

Couple or Relationship Therapy

Couple therapy provides a safe space for you and your partner to begin to explore your situation and to clarify the issues you want to work on. Many couples find this strengthens their relationship.  If a couple do not share the same hopes and expectations about the future, relationship therapy will support the safe expression of individual needs.  If you do decide to separate, relationship therapy can support you through this too.

Family Counselling

Family therapy or systemic therapy looks at the system of connections in our lives.  There is a focus on the relationships between people and how they have developed.  This can open up multiple perspectives and allow the safe expression of difficult thoughts and feelings to support helpful change.

Young Person Counselling 11-25 years

With young people I aim to create a safe space to explore the difficulties of this stage of life.  Identify issues, family breakdown, school, college and social pressures can lead to coping strategies such as self-injury or feelings of anger or low self worth.  I use creative methods as well as good listening to support and facilitate the therapy.  Where the young person is under 16 years of age I would seek the consent of a parent or carer before starting therapy.  I have an enhanced check from the Criminal Disbarring Service (DBS).

Supervision

I am a qualified and experienced supervisor currently working in my own practice and with Relate.  I was trained  in systemic and psychodynamic models including Hawkins and Shohets's Seven Eyed Model of Supervision. I can provide clinical supervision for trainee and qualified counsellors and I offer an initial assesment to meet and discuss your needs and requirements.  I have significant experience in facilitating groups and can offer group supervision.

After the initial consultation we can decide together the best route for you to take, should you wish to continue seeing me, we can agree a number of sessions to begin with, or we can take it on a week by week basis.  If that is not the best option for you at this time, we can discuss other modes of counselling or support that may be open to you.

As an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to strict professional codes of practice based on the BACP Ethical Framework. I am committed to personal and professional development and attend courses and workshops on an ongoing basis.
