Clinical Psychology - Child

Dr Anne-Marie (Milly) Sawyer

BSc PhD DClinPsy AFBPsS

I carry out assessments and best-evidenced interventions with children from 0-18 years, and use a combination of cognitive behaviour therapy and behavioural interventions.

I have a particular interest in, and significant experience of, the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with Health and Care Professions Council accreditation.  I am an Associate Fellow with the British Psychological Society.

I offer a quiet, non-judgmental and positive space, for families and their children, where difficulties can be discussed and assessed confidentially.  I offer advice and therapeutic support to some children and young people individually but I do a lot of work with parents in order that they can continue to support their children, long after treatment has finished.

I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist from the Institute of Psychiatry in 1997.  Since this time I have worked in the NHS for 25 years in National Specialist Services at the Michael Rutter Centre, Maudsley Hospital and for Sutton and then Croydon Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).  I have trained and worked as an Expert Witness in Child Care Proceedings.  I have also taught on a range of academic courses and have experience of supervising a range of professionals.  My PhD was a study of attention problems in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) from the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London.

The kinds of problems that I can help with include:

  • Autism Spectrum Conditions and related difficulties.

  • Examination/ college or school stress.

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and related difficulties.

  • Low self-esteem.

  • Feeding and sleep problems.

  • Parenting difficulties.

  • Tantrums and behaviour problems.

  • Intellectual assessments, including dyslexia and dyscalculia.

  • Low mood.

  • Problems with friends.
